This is the 13th Pattern Drop for the Fantabulous Scrappy Stars QAL!
Center Block 13
The Shoofly is all about using those scraps! The Shoofly quilt block is one of the oldest and most enduring traditional American quilt patterns, with roots in the mid-19th century. The Shoofly block likely dates to the 1850s–1870s, a period when patchwork quilting flourished in rural America. Its simple 9-patch structure made it practical for quilters working with limited tools and fabric scraps. The design appeared in early quilt collections and was especially popular in the American Midwest.
Although exact documentation is scarce (as many quilt patterns were passed down orally or through community sharing), Shoofly blocks appear in surviving quilts from the Civil War era. This block is perfect for the Fantabulous Scrappy Stars QAL!
The pattern is written for traditionally piecing for the 6”, but the 4” is written in Foundation Paper Piecing. “Sew,” grab your pattern and check out this week’s video!
On our YouTube Channel, a tutorial with tips and tricks is uploaded to give you some inspirations and insights to the pattern. Click Here to watch this week’s video!
As an added bonus, Vicki Holloway of My Creative Corner3 is joining along in the fun!! She will be making the quilt with 4” blocks, instead of the 6” that Angel is doing! Her quilt top will finish at 47” square. Her blocks are beautiful!!! You can follow along her progress at:
